The On-going Question: Is Alcoholism Genetic?
In 2010, more than 1.5 million Americans over the age of 12 sought help for alcoholism. Another 17 million drink heavily, participate in binge drinking behaviors or display other problem drinking behaviors, but have failed to get treatment. These numbers are increasing every year, and as more people struggle with alcohol dependency and abuse, they are more likely to lose their jobs, suffer from family problems, and experience legal consequences for drinking-related behaviors.
