Jennifer Ridha Smuggled Drugs for Cameron Douglas
Jennifer Ridha has written a book titled “Criminal That I am” that describes her relationship with Cameron Douglas, son of actor Michael Douglas and convicted drug felon.
Douglas was arrested in 2009 for selling meth and heroin at New York’s Gansevoort hotel. Ridha served on his legal defense team and soon formed a romantic attachment to the troubled actor, who had only a few B-list movie credits. She also provided Douglas with Xanax while he was incarcerated because he claimed to have anxiety.
The pair had their first meeting at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. Ridha wrote that Douglas approached her regarding a problem with the stitching of his jumpsuit, which had been altered by another inmate. After helping him resolve the issue with a Sharpie pen, she observed his swagger and good looks and admitted to herself that she was attracted to him.
As time passed, Jennifer Ridha became more enchanted by Douglas’ charm, and her daily visits with him eventually led to her befriending his mother Diandra. Ridha told Douglas that she ended her previous relationship because the man wanted children, and she did not. She also confirmed that Douglas was indifferent about his then-girlfriend Kelly Scott.
The first time Ridha smuggled Xanax in for Douglas was early in 2010. She brought the drugs into the prison by concealing them in her pocket, which was not searched. She then transferred them to a bag of pretzels, which Douglas consumed under observation. On subsequent visits, Ridha used a small, uninflated balloon to hide the drugs in her pocket. Douglas would somehow insert the balloon into his rectum and retrieve it later to take the drug. Overall, Ridha smuggled in 30 pills for Douglas.
In February 2010, Douglas was sentenced to five years in prison for his drug crimes. Jennifer Ridha told him she loved him, despite the fact they had only known one another for five months. The pair kept their relationship going through phone calls and Ridha’s occassional visits to the prison in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. They were not able to have sexual relations and had to settle for kissing and viewing each other fully clothed. Douglas was also still seeing Kelly Scott, which amused Ridha.
Douglas was caught with drugs in the summer of 2010, which sent the Department of Justice to Ridha’s door. He had not only taken the Xanax while in prison but had also shared it with other inmates, one of whom was an undercover federal agent. He eventually admitted Ridha’s role with the drugs and their inappropriate relationship. Jennifer Ridha felt betrayed by this, stating that Douglas lied and misled her, although she equally blames herself for being so gullible with someone who was clearly using her.
Currently, Ridha has furthered her education and become versed in criminology, legal anthropology, and urban studies. While still in light contact with Douglas, she says their relationship is platonic. Douglas was given an extra four years for the drug offenses, but may be released in 2018.
