Holistic Rehab
Holistic rehab provides a unique approach to treating chemically dependent patients. Its strategy is an all-encompassing one as it thoroughly addresses not just the core addiction and its causes, but the entire patient–mind, body, and spirit–in its effort to create a healthy person.
The Mind
The health of the mind is addressed in many forms during this treatment. Both groups therapy and individual therapy are normative treatments in these facilities. Some of these therapies include: mindfulness and dialectical therapy for the regulation of emotions and decision-making, motivational enhancement therapy to place and increase deep seeded desires for personal health, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy for clarification and effective management of trauma related symptoms, neuro linguistic programming to assess learned behaviors, and transformational therapies to address unconscious, dysfunctional habits.
The Body
The health of the body is also a concern. In order to achieve optimal body health, holistic rehab often utilizes acupuncture, massage, colonic, and Reiki therapy, as well as an entry and intermittent basic physicals to screen for additional physical ailments and condition. Other body-enhancing services used include: detoxifying approaches such as spas, whirlpools, and steam saunas, and condition-enhancing strategies such as gym access and personalized nutrition plans.
The Spirit
The health of the spirit is strongly emphasized. Worship services are accessible, as are personal awareness classes. Meditation and yoga classes are commonly taught in holistic rehab centers and can be individualized based on issues addressed in the mind and body sections of the treatment plan. In fact, these sections are often addressed in an overlapping manner as they are considered intricately interactive components of the whole.
Shared Traits of Traditional and Holistic
Like other approaches, this one also places emphasis on what are considered core issues in all drug rehab approaches. Support availability, both in rehab and after release, are essential to treatment success and are provided by most centers on a 24/7 basis. Patient environment and post-treatment patient environment choices are also emphasized during on-site and out-patient treatments. In the holistic rehab approach, they are considered essential for the health of the mind, body, and spirit which is also good for adolescents to give them the tools to turn their life around.
