Holistic Drug and Alcohol Rehab
The term “HOLISTIC” comes from the word “WHOLE”, which means complete. To treat oneself in a holistic manner is to look at the self from a whole (holistic) perspective and to understand the mind, body and spirit connection and the importance of balancing all aspect’s of your life. The concept of a holistic drug rehab or approach to recovery is not new, nor is the holistic recovery model. The interesting thing is that there are many factors outside the obvious physical needs of our bodies which play a key role in undermining our quality of life. By the same token, the holistic recovery approach takes all these factors into consideration. It is a more universal approach. It includes all of the unlimited resources available to each one of us. To view yourself from a whole perspective is to focus your health care needs and your recovery on the mind, body and spirit connection. This also includes accepting personal responsibility, health education and using preventive care and all modalities of care available to you such as western medicine, nutrition, rehabilitation, hypnosis, acupuncture, energy work, 12 step philosophies and spiritual healing.
One major aspect of holistic recovery is that we are ultimately responsible for our own recovery and our own holistic health care. It is only when we take on that personal responsibility that we can truly begin to recover. Our beliefs, values and attitudes affect our overall health and recovery and must be a part of our recovery process. Since ultimately we can not be completely healthy until we achieve balance in our life, with others and in our environment, then perhaps the true definition of holistic health and recovery is achieving overall balance. The goal is to help addicts learn how to live a full and satisfying life without being pulled back into addictive behaviors in order to cope with stress or emotions.
The holistic approach of recovery doesn't just address one
aspect of sobriety; it creates balance in all aspects of your
life. The various parts of a holistic recovery program will
actively foster mental, emotional and physical healing along
with (in some cases) the 12 Steps as guides to understand
and redirect impulses and overwhelming emotions to avoid relapses
and teach the addict how to manifest their new life. The addicts
will learn how to stay clean, but most importantly they learn
how to truly live.
