Christian Drug and Alcohol
Rehab
A Christian rehab focuses on Jesus Christ as an addicts "higher power." All 12-step programs are based on original Christian principles, emphasize a "higher power" to help an alcoholic or addict recover from their addiction and stay sober, but aren't necessarily a form of true Christian rehab. The Christian faith teaches that if one believes in God, they can be healed and delivered from sin and darkness. Bible lessons are emphasized and heavily studied. In many circumstances, addicts and alcoholics are able to compare bible stories to their own lives. This gives them something to relate to and helps them to understand that even when they feel alone, they are not. Christian rehab facilities emphasize this belief and teach addicts to place all their faith in God and his son, Jesus Christ. Christian treatment centers teach the healing addict to turn his or her life over to God, believing that their addiction can not be healed by man, but only by God.
The majority of addicts that admit themselves into Christian treatment facilities were once followers of the Christian faith, and along the way have gotten lost into the dark plague of drug or alcohol addiction. However, this is not always the case. Many of the addicts found in a Christian rehab are not seeking God specifically, but an answer to life in general. In a lot of cases, recovering addicts are searching for something to rely on and believe in during their healing process. Any addict with a desire to recover can find what they need to recover and stay sober in a Christian rehab center, as long as they have an open mind. Christian treatment centers emphasize that without God's power and love, there is no chance of a successful recovery.
Faith-based treatment centers are very successful in helping alcoholics and addicts recover. Examples of Christian rehab facilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Christian Drug Rehab Facilities
- Outpatient Christian Treatment Centers
- Inpatient Christian Treatment Clinic
- Faith-based Halfway Houses
- Christian Sober Living Facilities
- Residential Christian Treatment Centers
With many addicts in Christian rehab centers, detox is the first step. Does this mean that that the detox itself is a "Christian detox"? Not necessarily so. In some cases, the detox itself may not even be a part of the program, simply the medical portion of the program. The majority of alcoholics and drug addicts in treatment must get through detox before they can begin the rest of the recovery process.
Detox is a process that rids the body and soul of all the harmful drugs and activities that have been put into it over the past however long. Detoxing is one of the hardest parts of recovering.
In a true Christian detox center, the emotional and physical pain caused during detox can be suppressed with an addict's complete devotion to God. Christian rehabs and/or Christian detox centers help addicts manage the painful withdrawal symptoms that are experienced during detox by teaching the addict to put their faith in God and rely on Him to help get them through the uncomfortable withdrawal.
Christian treatment facilities are like other treatment centers in that they follow a 12-step program, too. The only difference is that the 12-step program in Christian rehab centers all focus on God and lead addicts back to God as their "higher power". By successfully completing the 12-step program taught in Christian treatment facilities, addicts are able to live a happy life and not suffer from the pain drug and alcohol abuse adds to all aspects of their lives. The 12 steps for alcoholics and drug addicts in Christian rehabs are as follows:
- Admit he/she has no power over his addiction and their life is unmanageable.
- Realize that only a power greater than themselves, God, can restore them.
- Decide to turn their life over to God and put all trust and faith in Him.
- Make a searching moral inventory of themselves.
- Admit to themselves, to God, and to another person the nature of their wrongs.
- Become ready for God to remove all defects of their character.
- Ask God to remove his/her shortcomings.
- Make a list of everyone they have hurt and becomes willing to make amends to those people.
- Make amends to any of those people whenever possible, except when doing so may cause harm to themselves or others.
- Continue to take a fearless moral inventory of themselves and immediately admit when they are wrong.
- Use prayer and meditation to improve their conscious contact with God, as done in the bible. The addict also prays for knowledge of God’s will and also for the power to be able to carry out His will.
- Because of these steps, the addict will have experiences a spiritual awakening. The addict then carries this message to other people and continues to practice these principles.
Christian rehabs or treatment centers help addicts to recover successfully and stay sober in a way that other, non-faith-based treatment facilities are not able to. Prayer is a main aspect of the treatment process in Christian rehabs, and is used in all meetings. Recovering addicts are encouraged to find God in their hearts every day and pray to Him whenever they need help. Even after treatment, many recovering addicts continue to use prayer and belief in God to get them through whatever comes their way. Once again, Christian rehab facilities show alcoholics/drug addicts that if they put their lives and faith in the hands of God, He will get them through the difficult recovery process.
